AMT P-51D, "Missy Wong From Hong Kong"

Post by Stikpusher »

So I was able to finish this up yesterday, AMT's boxing of the Otaki 70's vintage 1/48 P-51D. My original plan to use some Draw Decals markings for a Mustang features in "Empire of the Sun" was scuttled when the Draw Decals malfunctioned on me. So I used some Super Scale Decals from my stash combined with the Draw Decals personal markings. Aside from adding a decal IP and seat harness in the cockpit and replacing the kit's 1000 lb bombs with some 500 lb bombs from my spares bin, this kit was built OOB. I used primarily AK Real Colors and Tamiya lacquers for the main colors, with Humbrol and Model Master rounding out most of the rest. This was a pretty much trouble free build with only a bit of filler needed at the wing roots and on the bottom of the fuselage in the radiator area.

Thanks guys!

Gary, truth be told, it was the personal markings that sold me on this set as opposed to the other two P-51s flown in the movie. Who doesn’t love a little exotic cheesecake? :lashed:

There's an obvious 'nice bit of tail' joke somewhere. :hmm:

A cracking build Carlos - that came out really well indeed, and a great choice of scheme. The black lightning bolt looks really effective.

Very nice work on an Old kit Carlos. I love it when I see an old kit get some love. I'll bet if you search the web you will be lucky to find another example of this kit being built. Bravo! :shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout:

Thank you Chris. The more of these old Otaki kits that I build, the more I do appreciate them for what they were when first introduced into the hobby. I agree about trying to find another one of these on any forums. I don't think that Ive come across one yet with all the Tamigawa and Eduard Mustang kits hogging the limelight.
