Fat Amy Challenge...

Post by Stuart »

I'm far too overweight these days - I'm over 16st when I should be about 11-12st!

This is me...

Image

Part of it is a lack of exercise - I sit on my backside most week days working and since my wife started suffering from some issues that have curtailed her walking, I've not been getting my usual exercise in at the weekends either. Add to that a mild eating addiction and I'm starting to suffer - I had a bout of Gout a few weeks ago that was awful and my knees are killing me these days, they're carrying too much weight. I've tried dieting, well no, not dieting but actually changing my habits longer term, but I keep failing due to lack of motivation.

I'm sure you all know what I mean to some extent.

So where am I going with this...

I have this idea in my head to set my self three 30 day challenges in a row - change my eating habits, get some more exercise, loose some weight every day for 30 days - put a tick in a box and if I get 30 days with no misses, I'll buy myself a kit of that ultimate big girl - Fat Amy, or the F-35 if you like and then build it. The idea being, that after 90 days I'll have kicked some of my habits, lost weight and have a trio of nice Tamiya F-35 builds....

That's the sort of plan anyway... :hmm:

I hear you, brother. I'm not afraid to admit I've put on a few pounds myself. I try to cut back on snacks at night, exercise often as my knee allows - thru pain or not with the missus and the dog now that the weather is better.

I dont eat throughout the day all week, except lunchtime during the work week - usually coffee and bagel and a cereal bar.

We do get pizza every Friday and once in a while take out (never fast food take-out :nono: :nono: :nono:) one day on the weekend. I do most of the cooking try to make something healthy. Grilling season is upon us now and I do a lot of grilling everyday during the summer thru at least October.

Challenges that are far too real, especially being retired with health issues and a sick wife. I mostly try to eat less.

I weigh, within five pounds either way, the same weight I've had since around 1992. I gave up sugar that year and lost about 30 pounds. Oh, I still cheat on the sugar thing from time to time but don't go crazy with it. Though the weight remains the same it must be redistributed quite a bit differently because I have clothes that don't fit like they once did, all at the same weight! I was in real good shape when I worked as a painter but becoming a teacher was the start of my slide...just too much sitting and pencil-pushing, I guess. Jackie and I rarely eat more than two meals per day and sometimes it's more like a good lunch and then some grazing at dinner-time. I can't eat as much as I used to either; I get full much quicker these days. And, in reality, it just costs a lot to eat now, whether at home or out.

Your plan is a sound one, Stuart. :shoutout: I commend you on the entire thing and look forward to hearing of your progress in all areas. Me, I'd love to have an F-35 in the display; what a healthy way to achieve that goal!

Wishing you total success on your health challenge Stuart. It’s not easy to do, but it can be done. Don’t get discouraged. The results are slow to be truly noticeable.
And the trio of Tamiya F-35s sound like great incentive as well

I have to praise you like I should :giggles:

Good on you. Take a look at intermittent fasting. Watch the calories - try to limit to 1500 trying to loose weight. Then 2000-2500 to maintain. I want one of those F-35s as well - just can't choose which one but leaning towards the B.

Keep us posted!
Thanks,
John

Not to brag, I still wear the same sizes as I did in college.

Socks and shoes, but I’m counting that!

I think you've got the right attitude there Tom and you're definitely doing the right things. That's were I want to be. The Stupid thing is as a Vegetarian I should an a dam good diet, and I'd only eat twice a day - but I graze on too much crap. I can't seem to stop thinking about putting the next pile of food in my mouth - I must spend £5 on crisps, sandwiches, pies, coke etc. As I said, I think I do have a mild food addiction, or an eating addiction - certainly it's a very strong habit I need to break - hence the incentive.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a Friday night pizza - you can't cut out all the treats. (I don't intend too either) It's about moderation I suppose.

Grilling is a great idea, I need to do more of that.

Yeah I know the feeling Lyle. My sife is having a lot of problems too which is making us even more sedentary - and then you eat more because you feel depressed, well I do anyway!

Eat Less - Do more.

The same weight as you were in 1992!!! LOL! I'm not talking to you anymore!

Office jobs and pen pushing are the worst Gary - I know what you mean. You've done well to stay that weight, although bodies are a strange thing as you say.

Thanks! Well I used reward charts etc. all the time for my Autistic son - it's really helped over the years. It suddenly occurred to me to try one on myself. I've actually written an excel spreadsheet lol!

Cheers Carlos. Having had a talk to the doctors after my latest bout of Gout, I've really got to do something - I'm 49 this year and I don't really want to go into my 50's carrying an excess of weight and all the associated health issues (My Dad's pre-diabetic). My joints are bad enough as it is. Hard to believe that in 2000 I was 10 stone (140ibs) and could run two miles in less than 20 minutes, walked 10 miles a day and had a physical job. That's what cars and an office job do to you.

Yeah it'll be fun to try - they're are some nice kits from what I've heard.

Good advice John - I normally have to cut right back to 1000 cals to loose any weight as I'm sadly not that active - not by choice but more by circumstance. But then I'm not just trying to cut back in the short term - I need a long term change of mindset too. 2000 to maintain would be more than enough for me I would think.

Fasting I've done in the past - I'll try to leave 16 hours between dinner and breakfast, and at least 4 hours between meals.

I never used to like the F-35, hated it in fact, but over the years it's growing on me - I like all three really. Probably the C the most. From a modelling perspective the B is probably the most interesting.

I was planning to answer this post first, Stuart. I agree with you and sympathize. I suggest you also set a caloric limit of 2,000/day and log meals into an app, so you can see what's happening here with your eating habits. The tighter you can track them the better. Also, watch plank exercise videos and start stretching first. I was extremely fat a year ago and lost 35 pounds by monitoring and changing my diet. I still log meals.
