Focke Wulf Fw-190 A-8 with Bv-246 Hagelkorn

Post by Impisi »

It is the 1/72 Revell kit, it is a nice little kit and with the Bv-246 it is something not seen that often.

I don't think the FW-190 is not known in here, but perhaps a little about the BV-246 Hagelkorn. The Bv 246 was not used during WW2 also the testing started in 1944. The Hagelkorn (hailstone) was a gliding bomb. The Bv 246 was to be released by a carrier aircraft at a safe range from where it would glide to its target. Stability was attained by gyroscopic autopilot or by radio guidance transmitted from the parent aircraft or by a RF homing device in the nose. The high aspect ratio of the wings provided a very large 1:25 gliding angle, which permitted a release as far as 210 km (130 miles) from the target, with a release altitude of 35,000 ft. It was not put into mass production because it was believed that the remote control system could easily have been electronically disrupted.

Thanks for looking in.

That is a beauty of a 190 build! :shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout: And the Hailstone glide bomb is a new one to learn about for me. :hmm:
