1/72 AZ Models TBD-1 Devastator

Post by Fermis »

Another one of the "projects" on the bench....

Image

The box says it has PE parts....I never found any. I do have a set from White Ensign, for the wing fold and a couple other details(nothing for the pit). The resin parts a bit on the rough side....just takes a bit more time for cleaning em up. The plastic in this kit is thick, hard to cut/trim, and roughly molded. Panel lines are more like trenches. To sum this kit up in one word....ROUGH! This kit aint for everybody!!!

Getting started. I decided to lightly scribe in the panel lines and sand the hell out of the fuselage...eliminating the trenches and leaving the finer scribed lines. They're still a tad heavy, but a huge improvement!

(top one is done)

Pit time!!!
I dry fit the basic parts and found that the floor was wide, as well as the top deck. Trimmed those down to a respectable fit and started adding the good stuff!
Only the basic details are provided...it NEEDS more!!!
Added bits of styrene, wire, aluminum tape, stretched sprue, brass rod, and of course some Arizona Sweet Tea can aluminum.
PE belts from spares, scratched gunners seat.
Also had to cut off the tail end of the top deck (molded too short) and add an extension to it.

Keeping the arizona sweet tea company in business i see.
Great work, cant wait to see more.
You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Gonna chop em off, then engineer how the fold is gonna go. The PE I have is good in detail, but is about as thick as tin foil...definitely non-structural. Will be crossing that bridge when that time comes.

Neat picture. any closer they would be one bird.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..
