Ok, now I’m just about ready to toss the track thread parts for this one.

Nothing in guide to tell be how many per side (top, bottom, sides to wrap around large bogies - front and rear) Definitely not like my Stuart tank tracks when they never gave me issues. Honestly, they really suck. So far, I’ve broken a few horns on the individual treads.

Now it comes down to seeking advice whether these aftermarket track would be correct for the Stug. I think they are but I need confirmation before I buy them. However, they are out of stock in a couple online stores. Master Club seems to be the easy choice and ease of assembly. I do like the idea it comes with a track tread holder/guide to build your tracks to keep them straight. Plus, once assembled, they are flexible to sit with a slight sag right on the top wheels/bogies.

Quick Tracks is another brand but they have so many variation/type for the Stug - early, middle, late. Not sure if they are simple as Master Club in assembly or whether it includes a track tread holder/guide like Master Club has. Even better question is are they indies tracks?

Scalemates does not show instruction guide on how to assemble to indie tracks. Are metal tracks better than resin tracks?

Any help would be appreciated.

Spray painted RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb on most of the parts except top hull. Got tired after losing my patience with the kit supplied tread parts. I’ll resume tomorrow with the top hull.

Metal tracks are more robust than resin tracks. But they usually require some drilling for the connector pins. If you don’t have a pin vise and appropriate size drill bits, I’d say pass on metal tracks. But they do look really good once weathered and installed. The sag on them is hard to beat. I can’t speak for any resin tracks as I’ve never used any aside from some old ones by Accurate Armor, and those were ok, if a bit challenging to use.
But no matter what style of tacks you use, you’re going to want to use the late type for the Stug.III kit that you have. And you’ll need to check the fit to the sprocket wheel, as not every brand of tracks fit all kits. There are often fit issues between the width of the sprocket and spacing of the teeth compared to the tracks themselves.

Yeah… I don’t think I want to deal with metal tracks. No experience in working with them even though they do look nice on any tank model kit. I think I’m going to run with either QuickTrack brand or Rye Field brand. I’ve heard good things on Rye Field 3D tracks but are hard to find in stock.

I’ll keep looking. Otherwise, I’ll wait til Syrcon next month.

I'm VERY much a newbie when it comes to tracks Tom, so I'm in the same boat as you. I used some plastic RFM tracks on my Tiger and they worked well. Yes they're delicate, but that just requires careful handling.

I’ve watched a YouTube video last night and I’m very sold on Ryefield tracks. Pointed out some good tips how to assemble them. The other reason I’m sold on Ryefield tracks is they come with a jig to assemble them.

They're very easy - just time consuming. I'll watch that video through but he did a fair bit of faffing about you might not need to do. Once you get into a rhythm though I actually really enjoyed it.
