1/48 Hasegawa F-4D Phantom Air National Guard
Re: Hasegawa F-4D Phantom Air National Guard
Oh I'm making good progress. Paint is on and I started decalling. I'm trying to get away with not gloss coating the model before decals. I just hate that step and less coats mean less detail will get covered and filled in. Since the nose cone is already gloss black, I'm good for the radome stencils. I'm trying to carefully polish the paint with micro mesh pads where the insignia goes. Otherwise there's not much for larger decals on this build. I ran into an issue with the Hooligans logo. It is the correct size, and it fits well on the vertical fin, but the slime lights are in the wrong spot. I didn't realize this till right before I laid the decal down, so I had to scrape part of it away, as the logo isn't supposed to cover up any of the slime light. I can still see the old outline of the light underneath the logo, so I'll have to do a better job removing it on the otherside...and try not to muck up the paint

Re-working slime lights and fixing boo boos on the tail:

Finished painting and started decaling. Its been a tedious process pieceing all the markings and stencils from 4-5 different sheets. I swear, every decal has to be evaluated. Canopy lock stencils need to be correct, insignia's from one sheet are too dark, so I need to rob them from another. The stencils for the smooth radome have come from 2 different sheets. Hopefully it will be done soon, and I can move on to weathering. I still need to piece together stencils for the ordinance, those will come from 3 different sheets as well!! No one decal manufacturer gives you everything you need!!

...and I still have to piece together tail codes...and little ones for the nose gear door..

I've done Phantoms in the past and they've always gave me fits. Don't ask what they were for I can't remember. I wouldn't hesitate to have another go at it this time around.

Thanks Pholks! Someone really needs to do decals for ANG F-4's in Hill Gray. The only one I know is Speed Hunter. Just Ordered another Decal Sheet for the nose gear codes, from Caracal. My 6th sheet for this build??

Furball Decals have some F-4 stuff as well, just not the ANG F-4's. I need to find some for the F-4J.nathant wrote:Thanks Pholks! Someone really needs to do decals for ANG F-4's in Hill Gray.
