This is why I mound it on over larger openings. Once it has dried sufficiently, I can sand it as smooth as CA glue and as mentioned before, it feathers at least as well as CA of not better. For simple surface imperfections, brushing on a layer usually fills it enough and then sands to a smooth, even finish.
