1/48 Hasegawa Arado 234 Blitz-Now In Completed Section

Ok gang. I got the elevators/ stabilizers mounted up this morning, will do the necessary body work at the joints and then I'm going to shoot an automotive style semi gloss black paint job on this one to black base it. After that I'm going to try this whole marble pattern out for the first time to see just how well that system works.

Any how here we are all masked off (except for the landing gear struts) and ready for the black base.

TGIF - Huzzah! Is the airbrush you use in the background, Joe? Also what are your preferred Mix Ratios and PSI levels? I have a notebook going with a lot of... notes in it. Seriously I refer to everyone I follow for their preferences.

I black based this beast this morning and got a fairly even coat on it. I used the same method I use for my autos that I paint in black using semi gloss black for a base. I'm pretty happy with this.

Weapons of choice? A Badger 350 that works very well for large areas of coverage:



and my tried and true black which I dispense into a paint jar, let sit for just a few minutes to work all the air bubbles out and just shoot it onto the model. The method is to apply a mist coat all over the aircraft first. Make sure to hit the nooks and crannies as well as all the hard to get at area FIRST and open the needle up a good amount after the mist coat and put the wet coat on...……..again hitting all the hard to get at areas FIRST. The end results are perfection EVERY time.



after that I just set the model in the drying booth and forget about it for a few days.

Joe, that looks great! I used a Badger 350 for many many years as my sole airbrush until I pretty much wore it out. They are great for area coverage, and with a fine tip can do nice detail work as well.
I need to learn that decanting sparypaint stuff... it can’t be that hard.

Yessirree those 350's are hard to beat. Decanting isn't hard at all, but it can be messy as it got for me this morning before I started shooting the paint on this bird. I had decanted about a half a paint jar's worth and was getting ready to wipe the top of the jar off and then...……….it fell...…..onto the floor!!!! Luckily I have clear vinyl mats down on the floor around the paint booth area and in front of my bench so none of it got on the carpet thank God. But...…….. it did get all over my legs and feet. Clean up on the mats aint that bad but it's gonna be at beyatch trying to get that crap off of my legs and feet.

Yeah, my biggest concern is getting the paint all over my clothing. Anything else I don’t worry too much about.
