I black based this beast this morning and got a fairly even coat on it. I used the same method I use for my autos that I paint in black using semi gloss black for a base. I'm pretty happy with this.

and my tried and true black which I dispense into a paint jar, let sit for just a few minutes to work all the air bubbles out and just shoot it onto the model. The method is to apply a mist coat all over the aircraft first. Make sure to hit the nooks and crannies as well as all the hard to get at area FIRST and open the needle up a good amount after the mist coat and put the wet coat on...……..again hitting all the hard to get at areas FIRST. The end results are perfection EVERY time.
after that I just set the model in the drying booth and forget about it for a few days.
