Thanks, gents! One wall of my unit is glass - 14 feet high - made up of smaller panes like an office building. The top panes broke outward and fell on the patio. So I’m just counting my lucky stars or using my nine lives by living here. So I had to pack everything away - modeling supplies and kits - and fit everything inside a hall closet.

Bruce, I'm glad you weren't out there when those windows blew out. If that was caused by poor construction by the contractors, don't let them bill you for fixing that! It was their negligence so they should eat that cost.

That sucks! But I’m glad it wasn’t worse. Gee wiz!!

What the hell? What a ragged bunch of amateurs. I can remember a similar case that happened back in my years of study. We had a new build high-rise on our campus. During the first storm that building had to encounter, several glass panels (easily 80 kg each) came off and smashed on the ground. Luckily it happened at night AND during the weekend.
Carelessness like this can kill people.

Thanks, gents. I wish I was making this up. The contractors are blaming the workmen, and I agree there is just a lot of structural stress for a 60 year old building to absorb from two months of demo, installation of supports underneath, etc.

Oh I bet! Sometimes stuff like that’ll just happen whenever the building is older and they’re renovating it. And sometimes contractors can indeed be crappy. It happens.

I am sorry about your home though. I am. I feel for you because I know how much it upsets me whenever my home gets intruded by the likes of workmen and so forth because of repairs. I prefer it when things just work and the house runs like a Swiss watch. Unfortunately it can’t be like that 100% of the time. I sure wish it could be though.
