Matchbox FJ-4 Fury dual-build, in 1/48

Post by CallSignOWL »

I figured I should go ahead and post some of the projects I've been putzing around with.

This on again, off again project involves a second hand model I received during a kit auction...Or rather, TWO models. There was a whole 'nother set of sprues tucked away in the box!

Another old classic Matchbox kit! :shoutout: You don't find them too often anymore.

first up, the cockpit.

The matchbox supplied cockpit was little more than a plank that you glue a chair-shaped ejection seat to. I rummaged around in my spares box and found a replacement pit and seat. I grabbed a random spare instrument panel to help gauge the clearance needed.

its nice to see that matchbox included a full intake, but the fan way at the back is nigh impossible to see.

Here, Ive built up the cockpit walls and rear decking and painted the bang seat. Things are looking MUCH better now.

Excellent work in the cockpit! I have that same kit with an Airwaves or Regeat PE set to improve it. I'm gonna watch yours for ideas.

Thanks guys!

I also cut out the shallow indents that were supposed to be the airbrake wells. Some plastic card and gizmology helps spruce this area up.

its weird that matchbox gave you engine trunking, but the exhaust is just a flat end. To correct this, I drilled out the end-piece and used a pen-cap to give the exhaust some needed depth. (you can see the separated control surfaces here, too. Yup, im dropping the flaps!)

Image

a LOT of test fitting went in to making sure the two halves could line up correctly, but some clamping was still necessary. There was a sizable gap around the exhaust nozzle even before I did any modifying. Im just glad that my additions didnt make it any worse! :giggles:
